Josephine Greatens

Born in Green Bay, WI on Mar 25, 1918

Died on Sep 30, 2018 and resided in Town of Eaton, WI

Josephine Marie Greatens, 100 ½, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 30, 2018—during the Packer game.  The oldest of 4 children, Josephine was born on March 25, 1918, on the Feast of the Annunciation, to Stanley and Josephine (Sevcik) Blohoweak.  After graduating from Green Bay East High School-Class of 1936, Jo worked at St. Vincent Hospital in the office as a switchboard operator.  On September 4, 1943, she married Louis Bernard Greatens at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic in Green Bay. They celebrated 68 years of marriage before Louie passed on October 3, 2011.  Josephine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always putting faith and family first.

Josephine and Louie owned and successfully operated the family farm in Eaton.  They worked side by side many long hours.  Early in life, she enjoyed dancing to polkas.  In later years, enjoyment came from listening to “Polka, Polka” from 11 a.m. to noon on Sunday.  Together Louie and Jo enjoyed playing cards with friends, watching Packer games, and visiting with friends and relatives.  Mom enjoyed going out for lunch with friends and family.  She relaxed by reading magazines and the daily newspaper and watching TV after the day’s work was done.

Jo and Louie had special devotion to the Blessed Mother—praying the rosary nightly.  When she could no longer travel to St. Mary’s for Mass, Mom would turn on TV for Daily Mass provided by EWTN.

Mom was a kind and gentle woman with a Big Smile and a humble heart…never complaining, always thinking of others.  All the various flowers she had planted around the house brought great joy.  Once spring came, the floral bouquets came to the table.  Nothing made her happier than to have all come to the farm to have a family dinner and celebrate birthdays, holidays and other special occasions.  She was always cooking and baking.

Josephine is survived by one daughter, Romaine Juneau with whom she made her home; two grandsons, Rob (Tracey) Juneau of Denmark and their children, Tyler, Dylan and Paige; Russ (Karen) Juneau of Cedarburg and their children, Nicholas, Kaitlyn and Ryan; a sister-in-law, Betty Jane (Stanley) Blohoweak; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie; a son, Elden; her parents; her siblings, Stanley Blohoweak, Jr., Lorraine (John) Maloney, Leonard Blohoweak; her brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Eli, Josephine, Dennis (Matilda), John, Raymond (Anne), Wilfred (Edna), Richard, Clarence (Mabel), and Robert Greatens, Ellen (Joe) Leiterman and Leona (Edward) Landreman.
