Myrtle Collins

Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Jul 07, 1929

Died on Sep 24, 2018 and resided in Green Bay, Wisconsin

Myrtle Irene Collins, 89, of Green Bay, went home to meet her Father on September 24, 2018, after a courageous 10 month journey with pancreatic cancer. "What cancer cannot do because it is so limited. It cannot cripple love, or shatter hope. It cannot corrode faith, destroy peace, or invade the soul. It cannot kill friendship, silence courage, suppress memories. It cannot conquer the spirit. It cannot steal eternal life." This quote perfectly describes Myrtle, as the disease stole neither her fight, nor her faith, through-out her journey.

Myrtle was born on July 7, 1929, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to the late Edward Joseph and Myrtle Irene (Wolfgram) Dumas. She married her soul-mate in Harold Collins on July 24, 1948, in Green Bay, at Grace Presbyterian Church, at which they were members for over 50 years. She was most known for her steadfast faith and spending time with her family and friends.  She moved to the big city with her sister Virg to begin working at the age of 16. Most of her career was spent at A & P, where she served customers from 1959 to 1979, until it closed. She then began working at J.C. Penney's, where she remained until she retired in 2001.

Her interests were vast and varied, including many outdoor activities. She enjoyed spending time with her husband fishing. They spent their summers camping in Fish Creek or at the cottage in Boundry Lake, and their winters snow-mobiling in the northern Wisconsin trails with friends. She loved embroidery, gardening, and bird-watching, and was an avid Packers and Brewers fan. She was perhaps best known for her baking skills, which her family greatly benefited from. Christmas, and spoiling her large family, was her favorite time of year.

She is survived by their three children, Sandra Murray (Ernesto Galarza), Michael (Kim) Collins, and Wendy (Steve) Mangless; eight grand-children, Charles (Rachel), Martyn, Emma Jean, Alyssa, Troy (Erin), Drew, Kelly, and Dana (Chad); five great-grand children, Brianna, Kira, Collin, Mikayla, and Everett; and four great-great-grandchildren, Ayanna, Kianna, Danny, and Ronin; step-grandchildren, Tony (Colleen) Mangless, Jill Mangless; step great-grandchildren, Angelina, Adrian, Quinn, Grant, Cole, Caden, Grace, and Sam. She is also survived by brothers Jack (Jean), Dick (Marion), and Gary (Yolanna) Dumas, and sisters Shirley Blom, Beverly Berken, Joanne Edwards, Patricia (Cy) Calaway, Rita (Russ) McMonagle, Judy (Jim) Gerbers, brother-in-law Joe (Judy) Secor, sisters-in-law Audrey Dumas and Gloria Dumas, and many nieces and nephews.

Myrtle is prededed in death by her loving husband, Harold Collins; mother and father Myrtle and Edward Dumas; son-in-law, Jim Murray; sisters Virginia Kirchner and Marlene Secor; brothers Henry "Bud" and Jim Dumas; Brother-in-law Bob Berken, and sister-in-law Marie Wall.
