Born in Chicago, IL on Oct 20, 1923

Died on Sep 21, 2018 and resided in Green Bay, Wisconsin

Edward F. Thorsen, 94, Green Bay resident, died Friday, September 21, 2018 at a local care facility. He was born October 20, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois to the late William and Freida (Puerkel) Thorsen. Following graduation from high school Ed served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He served from Sept of 1942 until his honorable discharge in April of 1946. Ed married the former Josephine Esposito on September 11, 1949 at First Lutheran Church in Chicago.

Following a successful career as an industrial salesman, Ed retired at the age of 68 and enjoyed life as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a devoted Chicago Bears fan as well as a Cub’s fan and enjoyed dabbling in the stock market, buying and selling. Ed’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and seeing the smiles and laughter in the “little boys” eyes. He always hoped to have one more little girl to spoil, besides his wife and daughter. Ed was always ready to take a ride to the casino, truly loved life and brought a smile to everyone he met. We will miss him forever!

Ed was a member of the Elks Lodge #259, American Legion Post #11 and was a 60 year member of Masonic Lodge #522 in Barrington, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife Josephine and their daughter, Susan (Scott) May; two grandchildren, Jeffrey (Nikki) Ruediger and Andrew (Lisa) Ruediger; four great grandchildren, Brooks, Miles, Aiden and Evan. He is further survived by two sisters, Fern (Roy) Meissner and June Feiereisel; a sister-in-law, Mary Esposito.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Arthur and Ray.

Per Ed’s request a private funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 25, at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home with Rev. Lori Swenson officiating. Burial was in the Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, Illinois.

Ed’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Unity Hospice for all the care and consideration given to Ed and his family.
