Dorothy J. "Dottie" Schoenleber

Dorothy Julia “Dottie” Schoenleber, 78, died Friday, August 3, 2018.  She was born October 26, 1939, in Green Bay, to Kenneth Mark and Lorraine Edna (Aerts) Martin.

Dottie worked as a teacher in the Green Bay Public School System; primarily Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten from 1970 to 1986. She received her Bachelor of Arts from U.W. Milwaukee, and later her Master of Special Education in 1990 from U.W. Oshkosh.  From 1987 to 1999 she taught Early Childhood Exceptional Education Needs (EEN), and from 1990  to 2002 she was an early childhood program support teacher.  Dottie was an advocate for persons with developmental disabilities. On October 14, 1967, she married Larry H. Schoenleber at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish where she served as secretary, as a cantor, a board member of the renovation committee, a member of the decorating committee, and the Heritage Committee.  Music and church were always in her life.  Dottie enjoyed playing in bridge clubs and was a member of the  Green Bay Antiquarian Society and Allouez Horticulture Society.  She will be remembered as a beloved and devoted wife and mother who put her husband and children first. 

Dottie is survived by her husband, Larry; her children, Mark (Vonnie) Schoenleber, Matthew (Eve) Schoenleber, Anthony (Perla) Schoenleber, Vincent Schoenleber; her grandchildren, Alvaro, Marcos, Jade, Julius, Nicholas, Zoe, (and one more on the way); her brothers and sister: Richard “Dick” (Joanne) Martin, David (Louise) Martin, Douglas (Judy) Martin, Deborah (Kevin) Lyons; brother-in-law, Don Schoenleber; her best friend and “second sister”, Anita Crowell; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dennis Martin; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Marion Schoenleber.

Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason Street, on Tuesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.  Friends may also call at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, 413 St. John Street, on Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Dorner officiating.  Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Dottie’s name.  On-line condolences may be made to the Schoenleber family by visiting www.prokowall.com

Dottie’s family extends a sincere word of thanks to Dottie’s best friend Anita Crowell for providing help and care above and beyond and for always being there.  Everyone should have a friend like Anita.
