Norbert “Norb” Nooyen, 79, passed away with his family by his side after a 2-year battle with mesothelioma cancer on Thursday, July 19, 2018.  The son of the late Walter and Florence (VanDenPlas) Nooyen was born July 17, 1939, in Green Bay. Norb and his twin brother Bernard had many memories of growing up on a farm in New Franken with his three older sisters.  He graduated from St. Kilian Catholic Grade School, Luxemburg Junior High and Luxemburg High School before joining the U.S.  Army Reserves.  Norb attended NWTC, becoming an apprentice plumber and later obtained the status of master plumber in 1968.  He wore many work hats and passed the steamfitter test.  Norb was a member of Local #298, working at various employers as a plumber and steamfitter throughout his career, before retiring from St. Vincent Hospital in 2006.

Norbert married Jacqueline Baenen at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay Settlement on August 14, 1964. Together they raised 4 children.  Jackie and Norb enjoyed camping time at the trailer in Door County, playing cards, working puzzles, cross country skiing, cheering on his Packers, walking and reading especially about World War II.  One of their favorite summer pastimes was tending a large vegetable garden and canning.  He like to creatively express himself with wood and welded metal creations throughout the house.  Norb loved the challenge of household projects.

Norbert will be known for his many sayings, like “Hubert pass Johnny one cookie, or “just the way I like it”.  He enjoyed traveling especially to Alaska, Arizona, Japan and Germany to visit Jeff and Arly in Germany and Pam and Mark in Portland, OR.  These trips were treasured, along with many trips to Madison and camping trips with Jill and Steve and Craig and Nikey.  Norbert was forever proud of his children, his grandchildren and their accomplishments.  He always enjoyed attending all the grandchildren sporting and musical programs.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jackie; four children and their spouses, Jeff and Araceli Nooyen, their daughter, Kate, Ramstein, Germany; Jill and Steve Mueller, their sons, Trent, Grant, Hans and Levi, Poynette; Craig and Nicole Nooyen, their sons, Maxwel, Samuel and Quinn, Green Bay; Pam and Mark Maxcy, their daughter, Josephine, Portland, Oregon;  a sister, Barb Buhr; his twin brother, Bernard (Shirley) Nooyen; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Schmitt; Joyce (Tim) Smith, Susan (fiancé, Mike Ashley) Paleoart, Theresa (Kevin) Horton, Donna Baenen, Harold (Cheryl) Baenen, Jim (Pat) Baenen, Fritz (Pat) Baenen, Dave (Carol) Baenen, and Lloyd (Julie) Baenen; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Elaine (Jerry) Kropp and Madeline (Jerry) Tauscher; two brothers-in-law, Nick Buhr and Butch Schmitt and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Verda Baenen.
