Walter P. Latus, 89, Green Bay resident, died Wednesday morning, July 18, 2018, at his home following a brief illness. He was born November 5, 1928 in West De Pere to the late Stanislaus “Dan” and Catherine (Cavil) Latus. Walter attended St. Boniface Grade School and Nicolet High School graduating in 1946. Following high school Walter joined the U.S. Army serving from September of 1946 until his honorable discharge in December of 1947. After his military service he attended UW Platteville. On August 4, 1951, Walter married the love of his life, the former Audrey DeCleene at St. Matthew Catholic Church.

 Walter was employed by the Green Bay School Board for almost 40 years retiring on May 24, 1990. He was a member of the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club for many years and was instrumental in establishing the fishing tank for children with disabilities. Walter also enjoyed hunting for grouse and pheasants and never missed a week of deer hunting. He was a notable pitcher in the Green Bay AAA Fastpitch Softball League and was known as the only pitcher who never wore a glove. Walter was a league bowler and enjoyed sports of all kinds. He was a member of the VFW Post #2037 and a member of St. Willebrord Parish.

 Walter is survived by his wife Audrey and their children: Steven (Debbie) Latus and their children, Matthew and Carrie (Ryan) Hager; Marcia (Randy) Jauquet and their daughter, Kristine (Jordan) Miller; Rebecca (Don) Steck; Paul (Amy) Latus and their children, Kirk and Kayla (Patrick) Kennedy; Laurie Mineau and her children, Stephanie (Neil) Sticka and Andrew Mineau; six great grandchildren; three brothers-in-law: Louis DeCleene, Ron Fisher and Thomas Klaus; two sisters-in-law, Patricia (Jerry) Ziefle and Marcella DeCleene; nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by five siblings: LaVerne (Theodore) Nielsen; Glen Latus; Ruby (Louis) Walinski; Rita (Leo) Hunt and Claudia (Bob) Vandeveld; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Viola (Binon) DeCleene and in-laws: Nona Fisher; Eben DeCleene; Betty DeCleene; Joyce Klaus and Joan DeCleene.

 Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 5:00 -7:00 pm Sunday, July 22. A parish wake service will conclude the evening at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue after 9:00 am Monday at St. Willebrord Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams St. until time of Mass. Memorial Mass at 10:30 am at the church with Rev. Andrew Cribben, O.Praem officiating.

 Walter’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Age Well and the nurses and staff at Unity Hospice for all the care and consideration given to Walter and his family.
