Born in Cooperstown, WI on Dec 28, 1922

Died on May 26, 2018 and resided in Green Bay, WI

George Edward Bradley, 95, Green Bay, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2018, with his family at his side. George was born December 28, 1922, on the Bradley Homestead in Cooperstown, Wisconsin, to the late Thomas and Luella (Keehan) Bradley. He was a graduate of St. James Catholic Grade School (Cooperstown) and Denmark High School. He received a welding certificate from Manitowoc Vocational School.

On June 17, 1950, he married the former Elaine La Rock, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Green Bay. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2001. On June 17, 2000, the entire family and many friends gathered to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary.  They were a shining example to their children and grandchildren of a faith-filled marriage, deeply rooted in their Catholic faith. In December, 2012, family and friends gathered to celebrate George’s 90th birthday. He was proud of being 100% Irish and was a devout Catholic and family man. He was a past president of St. James Holy Name Society, Cooperstown, and a member of the Holy Name Society and Athletic Club of St. Bernard Catholic Parish, Green Bay. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Along with Elaine, they volunteered their time at St. Bernard’s for Friday fish fries during Lent. He was also an usher at St. Bernard. In their younger years, George and Elaine traveled and were members of the Happy Hoppers Dance Club.

He was employed as a welder at Manitowoc Shipyards, and helped build the first concrete runway at Austin Straubel Airport, while working for Suster Construction. He worked on the Bradley Family Farm until moving to Green Bay in 1963. Upon moving to Green Bay, the Bradleys joined St. Bernard Catholic Parish, where George became the custodian and managed the boilers at St. Bernard School. In 1966, he went to work for Paper Converting Machine Company and retired from Paper Converting as a maintenance supervisor.

The greatest joy in his life was his family. He adored his grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. George will always be remembered for his laugh, Irish twinkle, and ability to converse with anyone.

He will be sadly missed by his children, Shaun George (Libby) Bradley (Atlanta, Georgia), and Marla Jean (Michael) Lee, Green Bay. He is further survived by his grandchildren (all from Atlanta): Erin Bradley, Jack Bradley, Casey Bradley, Colin Bradley, and Kathleen Bradley. He is further survived by a sister, Geraldine Wojta (New Hope, Minnesota), sister-in-law, LaVerne Bradley (Ashwaubenon), and brother-in-law, Alvan Ourada (Bellevue). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; his parents, Thomas and Luella (Keehan) Bradley; sisters, Dorothy (Kenneth) Dewane, Grace (Edward) Thiel, and Marilyn Ourada; brothers Michael (Sally), Thomas,  Raymond (Nancy), and Jerome (Patricia); and brother-in-law, Daniel Wojta. Also preceding him in death were Elaine’s parents, Lester and Hortense (Scanlan) La Rock; her sister, Carole (Ralph) Biersteker, and her brother, Eugene La Rock.

Friends may call at St. Bernard Catholic Church (2040 Hillside Lane, Green Bay) on Friday, June 8, from 9:30-11:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church at 11:30 am with Rev. Mark VanderSteeg officiating. Entombment will be at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd, where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Elaine. Proko-Wall is assisting the family.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Jeremy Green, Bornemann Nursing Home, St. Vincent Hospital, St. Bernard Catholic Parish, and the Fern Lane neighbors for their kindness.
