She spent her childhood in Sturgeon Bay and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School where she met her husband Ed. After he finished his tour in the U.S. Army, and she finished nursing school, they were married on October 28, 1950, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Sturgeon Bay, Ed preceded her in death on January 26, 2007. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, past member of the Altar Guild and School Club, St. Mary’s Alumnae, St. Vincent Retirement Club, and the Red Cross. Leatrice was given the name Toots by her paternal grandfather when she was 1 day old, and it stayed with her. She and Ed traveled across the U.S. and had an extended trip to Europe. Their cottage on the North Branch of the Oconto River, which was built by Ed, was special to them. The rapids were beautiful and great for rafting, many happy hours were spent there.
