Howard J. LaFortune, “The Candy Man”, 90, of Green Bay went home to the loving arms of his beloved wife on Sunday, January 28, 2018 following a brief illness, with his family by his side.  He was born May 19, 1927 in Green Bay to the late Wendel and Gertrude (Goethe) LaFortune.

Howard was a graduate of Green Bay East High School, Class of 1945.  Immediately after he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean War. On November 22, 1951, he married Beverly Nysted in Green Bay at Redeemer Lutheran Church.  After his time in the service he returned to Green Bay to work at his family’s business, W.J. LaFortune Sons. He retired as one of the owners at the age 83.  Howard was a proud member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #801, and a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.  He loved singing and was an accomplished singer.  He sang with The Sounds Fantastics and at many weddings and events.  Howard was proud to tell everyone that he was the city horseshoe champion.  He was an avid Wisconsin Sports fan, especially of the Green Bay Packers. Of all of Howard’s accomplishments, he was most proud of his eight children. 

Howard is survived by his children; Debra (James) McNally, Cherie (Paul) Miller, Renee (Eric) Beaton, Paul (Robin) LaFortune, David LaFortune (special friend Trish), Mary Beth (Kristopher) Johnson, Robert (June) LaFortune, Stacie (Michael) Glass; his 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way); his steady girl Judy Way; his three brothers, Wendel (Janice) LaFortune, Don (Mickey) LaFortune,  John (Gwen) LaFortune, and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Beverly, his parents, and a grandson Kelby.

Visitation will be held at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason Street, on Friday, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 120 S. Henry St., on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the church, with the Rev. David Hatch officiating.  Burial will be in Nicolet Memorial Gardens.

Howard’s family extends a special word of thanks to the caring staffs of Unity Hospice and Woodside Lutheran Home.

Most importantly, we want to thank you Dad-for everything you have done for us and being the best Dad ever.
