Born in Rockford, IL on Feb 23, 1929

Died on Nov 30, 2017 and resided in Allouez, WI

Frances Adele (Godsebois) Hanson, 88, a longtime Allouez resident, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017, with her family by her side. She was born on February 23, 1929, in Rockford, IL to the late Augustus and Julie (Davies) Godsebois. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Green Bay, where she was affectionately known as Frankie. Fran met Carl Hanson at a VFW ball, shortly after the end of WWII. She walked up to him at the jukebox and put her hand in his back pocket and said “Do you look as good from the front as you do from behind?” He later said it was the first time a woman put her hand in his pocket and didn’t ask for money. They married on August 8, 1953, at St. Mary of the Angels in Green Bay.

Fran cut a striking figure with her signature red lipstick, blue eyeshadow, and fabulous shoe collection. Her love of a good conversation and dedication to serve others made her a fantastic waitress and an accomplished saleswoman. From the 1950s through the 1980s, Fran waitressed at many places throughout the Green Bay area including the Stratosphere, Fireside, Stein, and Hoffman House. Fran’s storied sales career began early as a cigarette girl at the Northland Hotel and she sold everything from relaxacisors (for which she won a national award) to Culligan Equipment (the first woman in the area to do so). Fran ended her long career as a sales counselor for Shrine of the Good Shepherd and Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Even while working several jobs at once, Fran felt a calling to volunteer at various community institutions. She gave over 40 years of service to the Cerebral Palsy Center of Northeastern Wisconsin, where she not only served on the board, she ran the telethon phone bank for many years.

Fran found great joy in cooking for her beloved family and friends; her green salad, shrimp dip, chip beef on toast, and Cool-Whip desserts will be missed by all. Family and faith were the core of Fran’s being. Her family takes great comfort that Fran has joined her husband Carl and her beloved daughter Holli.

Fran is survived by two sons, Andrew (Bette) Hanson, Madison, and Jon (Patti) Hanson, Sturgeon Bay; son-in-law, John Robinson, Green Bay; grandchildren, Joe (Trixy) Hanson, Dawn Hanson (Garrett Phillips), Sarah (Wayne) Emond, Melissa (Thom) Dunne, Nicole (John) Merkatoris, Chris Robinson, Jessica Robinson, Meghan Murphy Hanson (James Laurie), Michael Hanson, Matt Hanson, Mary Hanson; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Julie (Tom) Glas, Mary (Brad) Nelson;  brothers-in-law, Ray (Elsie) Hanson, Chuck (Dorothy) Officer, Craig Officer (Eric Norris); special friend Rose Mianecki; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Special thanks go to Fran’s best friend and daughter-in-law, Patti Hanson, who went to great lengths to ensure Fran’s end of life was very full. She enjoyed living in Sturgeon Bay for her last years: drinking champagne, rooting for the Packers, and sunning at Waterfront Mary’s, and poring over photo albums of her grandchildren.
