Betty Ihlenfeldt

Born in Green Bay, WI on Apr 18, 1938

Died on Sep 24, 2017 and resided in Madison, WI

Betty J. Ihlenfeldt, high school literature instructor, seeker of quality, student of life, died September 24, 2017.  “The Lord is my Shepherd and I shall not want—Thank you all very much!”

Resident of Madison, she was born in Green Bay, daughter of the late Frieda (Bloedorn) and Art Ihlenfeldt.  Betty loved growing up on their farm on highway 32 near Morrison.  She was a graduate of Zion Lutheran School, Morrison; East De Pere High School; UW-Oshkosh, with a Master’s degree from UW-Whitewater.

Her love for ideas and children motivated her to more than 40 years of teaching.  She began teaching English at Nicolet High School in Glendale.  Five busy South Milwaukee Senior High School years followed.  She joined the English Department/staff of De Forest High School near Madison in 1969 and retired there in 2003.  In addition to teaching duties, at both SMHS and DHS, she advised the creative writing magazine, coached forensics and did publicity.  A lively career as a Madison School crossing guard followed her retirement from teaching.

Betty is survived by her sister Jan, Green Bay; and by friends and Bloedorn and Ihlenfeldt cousins.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Jim.

In keeping with Betty’s wishes, there will be no funeral services nor memorial services.  Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family.  To send online condolences visit www.prokowall.com
