Nancy Ann (Defnet) Katers, 68, passed away on Tuesday, September 5th, 2017 due to natural causes.  She was born on June 22nd, 1949 in Green Bay to the late Donald and Dorothy (Strnad) Defnet.  She grew up on Chicago Street and attended St. Philip the Apostle School.  She graduated in 1967 from Preble High School.  During high school and after, Nancy worked at Pauley Cheese, then took a break to make a family, eventually re-entered the workforce where she worked as an Executive Secretary at Shopko for over 20 years, she worked for several years at Alberts & Heling eventually retiring in 2014 with much enthusiasm.

What made Nancy unique was her way of expressing her love for others.  She often placed others’ happiness above her own.  She had a definite talent in the kitchen, favorites were her shepherds’ pie, Cornish hens and cream puffs.  With her entire being, she loved music and dancing.  Nancy had a passion for nature and animals with a special affinity for ducks and geese, driving her to volunteer at the Bay Area Humane Society and regularly visit the Wildlife Sanctuary as well as inspire her one and only goose tattoo.  If you were ever in her ear shot, you would hear all about what she would consider her favorite interest and greatest achievements in her life, her 3 children and 5 grandsons.  She made it her mission to never miss a school event or game, and there were many of those over the years.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her 3 children, Tom (Renee) Katers, Bellevue, Laura Katers, Seattle, WA, and Paul (Gloria) Katers, Fort Collins, CO; 5 grandsons, Joshua, Ethan, Caleb, Noah and Adam Katers; 6 siblings, Dennis (Karen) Defnet, Donald (Marcia) Defnet, David (Bonnie) Defnet, Sue Breuninger, Terri (Warren) DeJardin and Sharon (Dan) Winiecki; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her special kitties, Spook, Tanner and Nina, and a grandpuppy Atlas.

Visitation will be at Celebration Church, 3475 Humboldt Rd., from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral Service on Saturday, September 9, 2017.  The Funeral Service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at Church with Rev.
