Robert Grunert

Born in Oak Park, IL on Apr 11, 1932

Died on Aug 05, 2017 and resided in Allouez, WI

Robert John Grunert, 85, Allouez died after a long illness August 5, 2017.  While he may have been named Robert, he was lovingly known by many other names throughout his life:  “Bob” to his friends and co-workers, “Frutts” by his children, grandchildren and neighbors and “Frank” by his beloved “Stella”.  Born April 11, 1932, in Oak Park, IL to the late Arthur and Blanche (Cousineau) Grunert, Bob carried his Illinois roots with him, remaining a lifelong Cubs fan.  However, even as a young man, he was drawn to the beauty of the Wisconsin farms and woodlands.  In fact, he met his wife, the former Veronica Ledvina, in a cornfield in Northern Wisconsin.  The two married August 16, 1958, in Milwaukee after Bob returned stateside after serving his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

A graduate of Marquette University with a degree in Business, Bob continued his service to country with work for the Post Office, and later as a manager for the Social Security Administration.  He and his family were thrilled when he was placed in the Green Bay office in 1972.  After “retiring”, Bob worked as a crossing guard in Allouez for 15 years, and as “Go-Fer Bob” for The Cookie Ladies Bakery.  He was generous with his time and talents, volunteering for Paul’s Pantry, coaching and umpiring Allouez boy’s baseball, serving as a trustee and for St. Matthew Parish, and being a Boy Scout Leader.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Veronica “Ronnie” Grunert; three children, Lynn Cohen, Sue Jarosinski (fiancé, Dale Kryger), and Paul (Tammy) Grunert; his grandchildren, Andy (Rachel) Cohen, Lauren (Chris) Gahan, Jordan Jarosinski, Aaron Jarosinski, Harrison Grunert and Hayden Grunert; great-grandchildren, Aiden Cohen, twins Seth and Chase Gahan; special Brookridge Street neighbors, other family and friends, and the family dog Ginger.

He will be laid to rest in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.  There will be no public services.  Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family.
