Myron T. (Mike) Besanson, 99, Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at a local nursing home. He was born July 2, 1917, in Green Bay, son of the late John and Catherine (Wimmer) Besanson. Mike served his country in the United States Army from 1941-1944 during WWII, serving in Papua New Guniea and Australia with the Rainbow Division 41st, Red Arrow 32nd Infantry (1st Cavalry—8th Regiment). Mike received a Victory Medal, Bronze Star, Expert Rifleman, and Honorable Service. He was also a lifelong member of the DAV. On February 10, 1945, he married Rita Soletske at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, and she preceded him in death on February 11, 2015. After WWII, he was a retail buyer for H.C. Prange Co., and later sold insurance and did electronics repair.

He enjoyed hunting with his son, golfing with family and friends and swim exercises at the YMCA pool. Mike was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church.

Survivors include his son, Patrick (Christine Nelson) Besanson; daughter, Mary (Don) Best; grandchildren, Britta (Graydon) Orr, Maya Besanson; Derek (Sarah) Best; Bradley (Laura) Best; 6 great-grandchildren: Keefe, Keegan, Laila, Makenna Lee, Alexander Brooks Best, and Braydon Patrick Orr; brother, Cyril Besanson; Godchildren, Leroy Young and Keith Solestke; and several nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; sister, Bernice; brothers and sisters-in-law, Milton (June) Besanson, James (Marge) Besanson; brother-in-law, (Jerry) Juley; sister-in-law, Laverne Besanson; grandson, Brett Lee Best; and nephew, David Besanson.

Family and friends may visit St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 645 S. Irwin St., Green Bay, on Saturday, June 17, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 12:00 p.m. Military honors will follow the Mass. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
