Gerald Roznowski

Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Dec 06, 1934

Died on May 14, 2017 and resided in Green Bay, Wisconsin

Gerald “Chum” Roznowski, 82, Green Bay, passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning, May 14, 2017 after a very short battle with cancer.  He was born December 6, 1934 in Green Bay, WI to the late Bernard and El Louise (Warm) Roznowski. His dad gave him his nickname “his little chummy”, and it stayed with him his entire life.  He was also known as “Roz” by many of his friends.

He graduated from Green Bay East High School and sailed the Great Lakes with his father as a cook in the Merchant Marine.  He married Marjorie (Barta) in 1955, built a home in Green Bay next to his parents and lived there ever since, raising five children.  He held several additional jobs until he landed at Wisconsin Public Service, where he worked for over 40 years.  He became a welder in the gas department, and turned into one of the most colorful employees WPS has ever had with a reputation for getting things done.  He enjoyed the outdoors, and spent many summers camping with the family.  He was eager to offer his opinion on things whether you wanted it or not, but he was also a true “straight shooter”, and you always knew where he stood on things.  He was also very friendly and outgoing, and would eagerly offer friends a cold beer or assist with a welding project.  In the last several years he was a frequent visitor at several east side restaurants and bars, where the proprietors knew him both by name and appearance (cowboy boots and hat), having an Old Fashion with extra bitters ready for him before he took his bar stool.

He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws: Steve (Debbie) Roznowski, Moose Lake, Manitoba; Mike (Michelle) Roznowski, Green Bay; two daughters and one son-in-law: Lynn (Mike) Lambert, Warrenton, VA, Karen Roznowski, Pensacola, FL; eight grandchildren, Adam Roznowski, Green Bay; Aaron Roznowski, Tucson, AZ; Dani Roznowski, Oshkosh; Mike Lambert, Austin, TX; Bond Cavazos, Haymarket, VA; Ryan Roznowski, New York City; Dayna and Jared Roznowski, Green Bay; one great-grandchild, Collette Cavazos; and his faithful dog Sam.

Chum was preceded in death by his parents; his only brother, Richard; his oldest son, Richard; and his wife.

Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., Green Bay, for a visitation on Thursday, May 18 from 3 to 6 pm, with a prayer service from 6 to 6:30 pm.  Afterwards, everyone is invited to Mackinaws Grill & Spirits starting at 6:45 pm for snacks, beer and of course Old Fashions.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.

The family would like to thank Joe Szopinski for the friendship and companionship he provided Chum the last several years, in particular in the last few weeks, along with both Unity Hospice and Patti Marquardt from Bellin Health for their assistance in Chum’s last few days.
