Lilas Hertel

Born in Charlesburg, Wisconsin on Oct 14, 1926

Died on Mar 16, 2017 and resided in Green Bay, Wisconsin

On March 16, 2017, Heaven received a special angel, our mom, Lilas M. “Granny” Hertel. She was born on October 14, 1926, in Charlesburg, WI, to the late Englebert and Isabel (Dohr) Buechel.

Our mom was one of a kind, teaching us what unconditional love is, strong family values, and selflessness. Her family was her priority first and foremost. Mom's love of reading led her to her career as a Children’s Librarian for the Brown Co. East Branch Library, retiring in 1990. Reading was mom’s passion along with golfing, traveling, shopping, and “pulling a few levers” at the casino. Mom married the love of her life, our dad, Robert Hertel on September 1, 1951. Dad preceded her in death way too soon on March 13, 1979.  We take comfort in knowing they are together once again.

Survivors include her beloved daughters, Barb Siudzinski, Sandy (Glen) Rentmeester, Patty (Mike) McKeough, Ann (Mike) Ledvina; grandchildren, Eric (Stacey) Siudzinski, Krista (Matt) Nelson, Jake (Nick) Siudzinski, Jesse (Crissy), Chris (Holly), and Amber Rentmeester, Tony (Megan), Brett, and Ben Ledvina; 13 great grandchildren with one on the way; sisters, Alice Mayer and Janice Rieder; sisters-in-law, Dolores Buechel and Romilda Hertel. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Lilas was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Hertel; son-in-law, Michael Siudzinski and infant grandchildren, Melody Siudzinski and Matthew Ledvina; brothers, Ronald Buechel, Donald (Mary Jane) Buechel; brothers-in-law, Clifford Mayer, Gordon Rieder, Edward (Syble) Hertel, John Hertel and nephew, Randy Rieder.

Visitation will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Dr., on Thursday, March 23, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Memorial Mass. Memorial Mass will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Reverend Mark VanderSteeg officiating. A memorial has been established. Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.

Our family extends our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the angels at the Jack and Engrid Meng Residence, Sr. Helen Keyzer, Dr. Winkler and Marcy Godlewski at Green Bay Oncology for the care given to mom.

“We will miss you mom.”
