Richard J. Jilot, 94, of Green Bay, died Thursday, March 2, 2017. He was born January 25, 1923, in Brussels to the late Frank F. and Mary (Renard) Jilot. He graduated with the Class of 1940 from Brussels High School and worked at Northern Cheese Company in Manitowoc before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in November of 1942. Richard served in the China Burma India Theater before being honorably discharged in November of 1945. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion following his active military service.
On June 29, 1946, he married Ann M. Vogel at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alverno and the two joyfully celebrated their 70th anniversary on June 29, 2016. The couple lived in Manitowoc while he worked again for the Northern Cheese Company, and moved to Green Bay in 1949 after Richard began employment with Northern Paper Company. Richard retired from Georgia Pacific in 1988 after 39 years with the paper industry.
Richard and Ann owned and managed an apartment building. Richard was a faithful Roman Catholic and a charter member of St. Bernard Catholic Parish, as well as a member of the St. Bernard Holy Name Society. He loved his family and was a great husband and loving father. He especially enjoyed visiting with family during the holidays, hunting, fishing and boating.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ann M Jilot, Green Bay; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Lynne Jilot and Richard and Wanelle Jilot; a grandson Jay (Cassie) Jilot and great-granddaughter, Lauren Elyse; brother-in-law, Richard (Hedy) Vogel and three sisters-in-law, Lucy Jilot, Fryn Jilot and Elaine Martin as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Lloyd, James, Frank and Norman and his sister, Mary Alice.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 11th, at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. after which the cortege will leave for St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Lane. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church with a dear family friend, Fr. Placid Stroik officiating and Fr. Mark VanderSteeg concelebrating. Military Honors will conclude the services. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
