Cecelia Gruetzmacher

Born in Forestville, WI on Nov 01, 1920

Died on Feb 06, 2012 and resided in Green Bay, WI

Cecelia M. (Alexander) (Wilquet) Gruetzmacher, 91, Green Bay, died Monday morning, February 6, 2012.  She was born on Nov. 1, 1920 to the late Dan and Rose (Waulet) Alexander in Forestville, WI.  On Oct. 28, 1937, she married Walter W. Wilquet, they lived in the Sturgeon Bay area maintaining a dairy farm and also raised and sold Registered Ayrshire Cattle, setting many state and national records.  In 1959, she moved to Green Bay and worked for a brief time at The Club Sierra as a cook.

She enjoyed dancing the “hop” polka winning several dance contests.  She joined the “Happy Hoppers Dance Club”, which she enjoyed for many years.  Cecelia danced in many parade celebrations and won several dance contests in and around the Brown County area.

She was a very active card player of which “poker” was her favorite, which she learned very well.  Her games would sometimes last into the wee hours of the morning.

Cecelia was very active in her early years, baking and cooking for annual “kermises”.  Her cooking skills were many, including, Belgium, cherry and apple pies and also homemade breads.  Knowing her, you could always expect a big smile and liked to joke and laugh, with eyes that gave a wink!

On March 17, 1979, she married Roland D. Gruetzmacher and lived in the Kewaunee area, where they always had a large garden.  She also got to go to Hawaii on her honeymoon, which had been a lifelong dream!  After having a very serious, almost fatal heart attack in 1985, she made a remarkable recovery and was soon dancing and doing her favorite pastimes.

After her husband’s passing in 1992, she moved back to Green Bay where there was still many card games with a joke or two!

She is survived by one son, Wayne (Lucy) Wilquet, Green Bay; three grandchildren, Melissa Wilquet, Brenda (Kevin) Devroy, both of De Pere and Wade W. (Tina) Wilquet, Stevens Point; six great grandchildren, Tanner, Marissa, Steven, Serena, Hunter and Blake; also one step great grandchild, Karissa Devroy; she will also be missed by all her nieces and nephews who played a very active role in her life!

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Alexander and one sister, Alvina LeRoy.
