Richard Arvid Jahnke, 81, Green Bay, met his Savior in heaven on Friday evening, September 11, 2009. He was born on March 20, 1928 in the Town of Preble to the late Henry and Eunice (Darr) Jahnke. Richard attended East High School. On September 8, 1945 Richard married the former Ramona Sprague in Canton, Missouri. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1951. He then served in the Korean Conflict. Richard was a volunteer fire fighter for the town of Preble, and a generous blood donor, totaling 36 gallons of blood over his lifetime. He and his father ran the Standard Oil Gas Station in the town of Preble from the time he was a young boy up until his late twenties. Richard was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years, retiring in 1988. He loved everything outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, golfing, skiing and camping. He was also an avid Packers fan and original stockholder. Richard and Ramona were very involved and influential in the lives of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge #19 since he was 18 years old and a charter member of Atonement Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Ramona; daughter, Mary (Mark) Abitz; son-in-law Tim (Eileen) Berken; six grandchildren, David (Paula) Berken, Michael (Tracy) Berken, Ann Fieldhack, Jane (Erik) Lee, Catherine and Elizabeth Abitz; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Alissa, Sullivan, Madelon, Jake, General. He is also survived by a brother and sister, Urban Jahnke and Ethel Mae Macaux; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pat (Fritz) Frederick, Elois Jahnke, Caroll (Otis) Wessley, Judy (Ron) Campshure; special friends Charles Hilla and Jimmy (Lillian) Pittman; many nieces, nephews, relatives and other close friends. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Cheryl Berken and Kathleen Fieldhack; grandson, Robert Joseph Berken; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Norman (Geneva) Jahnke, Earle (Ethel) Jahnke, and Ellis Jahnke; one brother-in-law, Glen Macaux
Friends may call on Monday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 4 to 8 p.m. Odd Fellow Memorial Service 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2132 Deckner Ave. from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral Service 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor James Gerth officiating.
