Edward M. Hermans, 76, Green Bay resident, entered into the Lord’s arms on Tuesday morning, July 27, 2010, after battling a lengthy illness. He was born May 24, 1934 in Green Bay to the late Mathias and Lorraine (De Bot) Hermans. On August 1, 1953, he married the former Gail Wery at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Duck Creek. Ed worked for Procter and Gamble for 38 years. He was past treasurer and Commodore of the Green Bay Yacht Club and a member of the Bay Sammers, a motor home group, where he served as past-president. Ed built his own sailboat and enjoyed sailing and motor-homing with his family. He enjoyed dancing the polka, jitterbug and waltz. He also enjoyed golfing with his son and his many friends. Ed served in the Army National Guard for eight years.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Gail, Green Bay; his son, Richard (Jean), Oneida; one grandchild, Shawn Berzinsky (fiancé, Stacy Wellner), DePere; one great-grandchild, Chevalier; his brother, Donald (Muriel), Green Bay; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Ivy Wery; and his brothers-in-law Charles and Vernon Wery.
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Parish Wake Service will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the cortege leaves for church. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Monday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, corner of Barid St. and University Ave, with Rev. Harry Hafeman officiating. Burial at Fort Howard Cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established in Edward’s name.
