Patricia J. Vandenhouten, 71, Allouez resident, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving husband and 8 children, following a brief illness. She was born August 30, 1938 in Evanston, IL to the late James and Jean (Kraft) Barrett. Pat attended the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN where she graduated with a BS Degree in Social Work. She married Mark Vandenhouten on November 30, 1963 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Pat was employed at Family Services of Brown County and Fox Valley Psychiatric Hospital. She was an incredibly giving woman with an enormous heart and love for others. Pat and Mark took in several foster children, volunteered for various parish activities and coached their children’s sports teams. She enjoyed gardening, spending summers at the cottage and winters in Florida with her husband and many dear friends. Pat loved to bowl and play cards with her lifelong friends. She was the happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren. Pat was formerly a member of St. Mary of the Angels Parish and currently Resurrection Parish.
Pat is survived by her husband Mark; four sons: Scott (Michelle), Wales, WI; Todd (Mary), Peter (Katie) and Frank (Melissa), all of Green Bay; four daughters: Jean (Mike) Vogel, Green Bay; Kristin (Melanie Knott) Vandenhouten, Kaukauna; Karin McLean, Green Bay; and Jessica (Jud) Snyder, Whitefish Bay; twenty-three grandchildren: Abby, Sarah, Melissa, Jenna, Dylan, Trent, Elizabeth, Michael, Matthew, Emily, Cole, Caitlin, Mari, Meghan, Christopher, Justin, Kegan, Kaeli, Caroline, Jackson, Sam, Emma, and Will; two great-grandchildren: Jakob and Elissa. She is also survived by two sisters, Kathy (Tim) Kerwin, Clearwater, FL; Peggy Barrett, Indiatlantic, FL; her mother-in-law, Marie Vandenhouten, Green Bay; two brothers-in-law Don (Rosemary) Vandenhouten, Sheboygan; Lee (Sandy) Vandenhouten, Austin, TX; three sisters-in-law: Yvonne (Jim) Jandrain, Austin, TX; Sue (John) Calabrese, and Cathy Vandenhouten, all of Green Bay; several nieces and nephews, especially Joey (Bob) Rickards, Paul (Jennifer) Barbeau, as well as a close family friend, Dennis McLean.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law Abel Vandenhouten, and brother-in-law Ernie Barbeau.
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. on Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. Parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday after 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the church with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Entombment at the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy a memorial fund has been established in Pat’s name.
