Larry E. Younk, age 73, passed away unexpectedly due to an acute heart condition Sunday afternoon July 4, 2010. Larry was born in Green Bay on February 4, 1937 to Luella (Schoepke) Younk and the late Edwin Younk.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Welles and they recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary.
Larry was a graduate of Green Bay East High School, class of 1955. He has been actively involved in organizing the reunions for many years.
He was employed by Green Bay Packaging for over 35 years. He was a Union member and served as President until he assumed a position with Management. Larry retired in 1997.
Larry was very interested in the youth hockey program. He coached and was President of the West Side program for many years. He was an avid golfer, bowler, softball and Bocce Ball player.
Larry is survived by his wife Shirley; three sons, Michael, David (Lisa Hartjes), and Robert (Theresa Hoida); and three grandchildren, Leanne, Becca and Dylan. He is also survived by his mother, a sister, Pat Huth, and a brother Dan (Bobbie Nelson); four sisters-in-law, Patricia Birkenmeier, Jan (Frank) Walczyk, Murial (Jack Ball) and Mary Welles. Close family friends, Clete Birkenmeier and Norbert Thomas, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Florence Welles; and one brother-in-law, James Welles.
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday and after 10:00 AM Thursday at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida St., until time of Mass. Parish Wake service 7:30 PM Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Thursday at the church with Larry’s nephew, Fr. Timothy Welles officiating. Entombment at the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy a memorial fund has been established in Larry’s name.
