Kathleen Van Oss, 90, Green Bay, passed away on June 28, 2010. Kathleen was born on Aug 20, 1919 in Green Bay to the late James and Lillian (Mayo) Hanahan. On June 17, 1941 she married Robert W. “Red” Van Oss Sr. at St. Willebrord Catholic Church in Green Bay and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1991. She was a lifelong member at St. Willebrord Catholic Church. Kathleen was a devoted wife, mother of eight, grandmother and great grandmother. She truly enjoyed family and family gatherings and her wonderful traditions will be carried on for generations. Golf was her passion and she was very proud of her hole-in-one at Brown County GC and her Northbrook Club Championship. She was a member of both Shorewood and Northbrook Country Clubs and was Chairperson of NEWGA for 12 years. She was also a longtime volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital, enjoyed her daily crossword puzzles and playing Bridge and Schaskopf with friends for over 70 years. An avid fan of all sports, especially the Packers, always cheering for the ‘hometown’ athletes.
She will be sadly missed by 7 children and their spouses, James (Candy Rohrer) Van Oss, Homer Alaska, Tom (Barb) Van Oss, Naples Florida, Bob Jr (Mary) Van Oss, Suamico, Ellen (Robert) Lancelle, Little Suamico, Kitsy (Paul) Baumgartner, Karen (Scott) Opolka and David (Zoe) Van Oss all of Green Bay, sisters-in-law, Jeanne Wright, Lutz, Florida, Avie Van Oss and Mary Van Oss both of Green Bay, 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Red, young son Billie, sister and brother-in-law Jane and Bernard Turnock Sr., brothers-in-law Jack and Ralph Van Oss and sister-in-law Dorothy Van Oss.
Kathleen received an Honorary Proclamation on her 90th birthday from Mayor Jim Schmitt of Green Bay, for being a lifelong resident and good citizen.
Friends may call at St. Willebrord Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams Street on Thursday from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am with Rev. Ken De Groot, O.Praem officiating. Kathleen and her family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Unity Hospice, especially Virginia, Laurie, Linda and Nancy, and also to Dr. Jeremy Green and his nurse Cheri for all their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established with donations being forwarded to Unity Hospice.
