Charles Alpert
Charles Alpert, 82, Allouez resident, passed away on Saturday, June 28, at Unity Hospice Residence with his loving family by his side. Charles was born in Sheboygan, WI and was raised in Manitowoc where he attended Lincoln High School. At age 16, he went to Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, MO, and later served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He met the love of his life, Charlotte, when he was 14 years old, and together they spent the next 69 years in love, and 62 years in marriage. They had three children – Cathy, Mark and Tracy.
Charlie established Rummele´s Jewelers of Green Bay in 1950. He loved going to work every day and truly cared for his customers.
Charlie loved to travel, play tennis and golf, but mostly he loved to be with his family. He had a strong appreciation for art, music and chocolate. Charles established the Max Alpert Scholarship for Jewelry Repair and Design at NWTC and The Ralph Stein Scholarship for Journalism at UWGB.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Max and Bertha Alpert. Charles is survived by: his wife, Charlotte; his children, Cathy (Howard) Rosenblum of Nashville, TN, Mark (June) Alpert of Brooklyn Heights, NY, and Tracy (Peter) Reinhart of De Pere, WI; eight grandchildren, Tali and Noah Rosenblum, Emily and Sophie Alpert, and Chloe, Charlie, Lily and Zoe Reinhart; sister, Rhea (Skip) Friend of Menlo Park, CA; sister- and brother-in-law, Barbara and Eugene Kramer of Sherman Oaks, CA; and nephews, Jim Friend, Peter (Margot) Friend, Michael Kramer and Todd Kramer. Charles is also survived by his best friend and caregiver, Andy Marcelle of Green Bay.To Charlie´s employees, customers and friends, thank you for the care and concern you have expressed over the years. It has meant so much. The family wishes to thank Woodside Lutheran Nursing Home. Special thanks to Dr. Jeremy Greene and the wonderful and caring staff at Unity Hospice. Words cannot express the family´s appreciation to Andy Marcelle who lovingly and attentively cared for Charles over the last four years. According to Charlotte, "Andy was an angel who landed on her shoulder…..her lifeline."
Visitation for Charles will be at Proko Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, beginning at 9:30 a.m., with a funeral service at 11:30 a.m., Rabbi Shaina Bacharach officiating. Upon conclusion, graveside services will be held at Fort Howard Cemetery. Rummele´s will be closed until 1:30 p.m. that day. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Unity Hospice of Green Bay or the Alzheimer´s Association for Research.
