Gerald F. (Jerry) Holloway, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008 after a short illness. He was born Nov. 1, 1916 in Askeaton, WI, the son of the late Frank and Winifred (Rolland) Holloway. Gerald spent his early years on the family farm and graduated from Wrightstown High School. Gerald was a veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941. He attained the rank of sergeant serving with an artillery company of the 88th Infantry Division, 5th Army. Gerald participated in combat action during the landings in Morocco, North Africa in 1942 and in battles for Sicily, Anzio (Italy), Monte Cassino and Po Valley. He was awarded the Purple Heart among various other decorations.
After World War II, he married the former Pauline Rhodes in 1946. Pauline preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 2005. During Gerald´s early career, he owned his own tavern business and a local beer distributorship. During the 1950´s through the mid 1960´s, he was General Sales Manager for Rahr Green Bay Brewing Corp. With the closing of Rahr Brewing Co., he became an independent Real Estate Broker and for over 25 years owned his own real estate company, specializing in commercial and agricultural real estate.
During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling around the U.S. with his wife, Pauline, to various locations. Together they enjoyed the extended times spent at Lake Havasau City, AZ. Gerald was a past member of various local and national organizations including the V.F.W., American Legion, Elks Club and National Association of Realtors and many other organizations. He was also a long standing member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral Parish.
Survivors include one son, Thomas (Tom) and daughter-in-law, Fran Holloway of Green Bay. Gerald is also survived by two grandsons, Todd Holloway, Foster City, CA; Mike (Corinne) Holloway of Grafton, WI; and two special great-grandchildren, Miranda and Spencer Holloway of Grafton, WI; one sister, Florence Penland, Redondo Beach, CA; one sister-in-law, Lois Holloway of Green Bay; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille, and two brothers, Gordon and Donald Holloway.
Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral until the time of Mass. Mass of Christian burial 10:00 a.m. at the church with Msgr. Roy Klister officiating.
