George Hazaert, 82, Green Bay, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 28, at the Unity Hospice residence, after a courageous 12 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born Nov. 19, 1927 in Green Bay, the son of the late Edward P. and Clara (Brown) Hazaert. He married Vera Waye of Savannah, GA on July 26, 1952 while serving his country at Hunter Air Force Base, Savannah. They would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this year. George graduated from West High School, Class of 1946. George was employed by O. & E. Machine Corp. for many years, where he wore many hats: machinist, industrial engineer, foreman & Union President. Many of his inventions were incorporated into the organization.
George had many hobbies: golf, tennis, billiards, gardening, woodworking, renovating his beautiful Astor Park home, feeding the birds, squirrels and involuntary feeding of the chipmunks who invaded his garden. George was a member of Celebration/Bayside Church, where he volunteered his time in numerous ways. Before he joined Celebration Church he was a member of First Assembly of God Church. He sang in the choir there, and taught the youth in Royal Rangers, which was similar to Boy Scouts. After that he was a member of Interfaith Church (Living Hope). George will be remembered for his quiet and gentle spirit, and his love of God and family.
Survivors include his loving wife, Vera; his four children: Larry (Yvonne) Hazaert, Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Dan (Debi) Hazaert, Green Bay; Shirley (Michael) Henderson, Green Bay; Randy Hazaert, Brookfield, WI; four grandchildren, Tiffany Belekevich; Green Bay; Megan Yates, NYC; Brian Henderson, Chicago; and Jared Hazaert, Green Bay; three step-grandchildren, Heather, Texas; Adam and Aaron, CA; one great grandson and three step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Pearl (James) Tatosky, Iron Mountain, MI; Harold (Jan) Hazaert, Green Bay; Carol (Atlie) Schmidtke, Mountain, WI; Carl (Helen) Hazaert, Green Bay; nieces, nephews and many friends.
George’s parents & his older brother, Herbert (Elaine) preceded him in death.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 17 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Celebration Church, 3475 Humboldt Road. Memorial Service will be held immediately following. Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to George’s family at www.prokowall.com.
George’s family would like to thank the many caregivers from St. Vincent Home Health, Unity Hospice, Woodside Nursing Home, Anna’s House of New Franken and Bellin Hospital. We also thank the many friends and family who prayed for and visited George, especially Harold and Jan Hazaert who faithfully visited him in his home, hospital, nursing home and the Unity Hospice Residence. A special thank you to Karen Konrad who visited and ministered to him during his illness and our next door neighbor Dave Hartl.
