Daniel "Don" L. Farah, 81, resident of Green Bay and Door County, died early Friday morning, March 7, 2008 at his home following a brief illness. He was born August 5, 1926 in Green Bay to the late Esber and Sophie (Shalhoub) Farah. Don served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged on August 3, 1946. He married the former Joy Gaedtke on October 31, 1953 at St. Patrick´s Catholic Church. Don was employed at Farah´s Grocery Stores before opening St. Agnes Super Valu in 1960. Some of Don´s proudest moments were cooking for Vince Lombardi and catering for the Green Bay Packers. He was known as a trendsetter in the food business. Don was one of the first makers of frozen pizza. The "Danny Boy" frozen pizza was not only sold through the Farah stores, but to retail stores throughout the area. His St. Agnes Super Valu was also home to the first full service deli north of Milwaukee. In 1976, Don founded Meat Processors in Green Bay. Meat Processors was the birthplace of the "Finger Steak" prime rib sandwich. He retired in 1987 passing the business on to sons Jim and Doug. Throughout Don´s career, he remained active in numerous local service organizations. Don is survived by his wife, Joy and their seven children; Jim (Erin) Farah and family, Sommer, Haley and Parker; Doug (Ann) Farah and family Alisa & Austin; Debbie Farah (Ken Vonckx) and family Amy (Nick), Tara, Angela, Amanda and Alicia; Julie (Chuck) Lamine and family Jason and Emily; Jeri (Tim) Paul and family Heather, Nathan & Stephanie; Dr. Dan Farah and Jo Beth Farah, all of Green Bay, three brothers, Barney (Ruth) Farah; Carl (Pat) Farah; Phillip (Ruth) Farah, one brother-in-law, Basil Koury, and sister-in-laws, Fern Farah and Vi Michiels, nieces and nephews . He was preceded in death by a brother, George Farah, a sister, Alice Koury, a sister-in-law, Doris Farah, a niece, Judy Farah and nephews, Michael and Jeff Farah, also, William and Olga Gaedtke, Gerald and Willie Gaedtke, Sylvia Cuish and Ellen Limberg. Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 5-8 pm Sunday and after 10:00 am Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1420 Division St., until time of mass. Parish wake service 7:00 pm Sunday, Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am Monday at the church. Burial in the Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
