Eugene “Gene” Mancheski, 85, of Green Bay, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at an area care facility.
Gene was born April 20, 1924 in the town of Glenmore, the son of the late Henry and Clara (Warpinski) Mencheski, and was united in marriage to Dorothy Derenne for 43 years.
Gene was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, and then he owned and operated Gene Mancheski Livestock Trucking. He also worked with Stanley Home Products. Gene volunteered for the March of Dimes and 4H for many years.
Gene was a man of strong faith and was a faithful member of St. Bernard’s Parish. He also served communion for 30 years at his church, St. Vincent hospital, nursing homes and to shut-ins at private homes. Gene was known for his pineapple upside down cake and his beautiful roses. He loved spending time with his numerous nieces and nephews and children of all ages. Gene was adored by all for his genuine interest and love for all people.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two brothers Hank (Pat) Mencheski, Denmark and Wayne Mancheski, Milwaukee, brother-in-law, Clem (Teresa) Derenne, Bellevue; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Derenne, Luxemburg and Laurel Mencheski, DePere; 54 nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Robert Mencheski, sister-in-law Mary Mancheski, brothers and sisters-in-law; Irene (John) Holsbach, Josie (Arnold) Prevost, Norris (Arvela) Derenne, Goldie (Ethel) Derenne, Jennie (Raymond) Baudhuin, Walter Derenne, Joseph (Anna) Derenne.
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 4 – 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside. Parish wake service 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev. David Pleier officiating.
