Howard "Howie" Lehman, 69, Green Bay resident, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2008 following a lengthy illness. He was born August 27, 1938 in Horicon, WI to the late Arthur and Marguarite (Hinterthuer) Lehman. Following high school, Howard served in the U.S. Army in 1956. Howard earned his B.A. Degree in education at the University of Oshkosh. Howard married the former Carol Horn on June 12, 1964 at St. Paul´s Lutheran Church, Fulda, MN. He spent most of his teaching career at Morgan L. Martin elementary school and retired from Edison Middle School in 1995 following 33 years of teaching. He initiated and coached 6th grade basketball while teaching at Morgan L. Martin. In addition he ran the score books for boy´s basketball at Preble High School and enjoyed running the "down box" for Preble football. Howard was instrumental in starting the Phoenix Dunkers Booster Club and served on their Board of Directors until 2004. He also served as substitute score keeper for the men´s and women´s basketball teams at U.W.G.B. Howard was an avid golfer his entire life and began and ran the men´s golf leagues at Woodside Golf Course, retiring from that position in 2000. He started collecting stamps when he was 13 years old and never stopped. He also had a vast coin collection. Howard enjoyed fishing and had a passion for hunting in the Horicon Marsh, and it wouldn´t be right if there wasn´t a good card game to follow. His family will always remember the summer vacations at the cottage. Those special times were passed on to his children and grandchildren. Howard will be remembered for his singing at special services, and especially the Dudley Birder Chorale. He was a long time member of Atonement Lutheran Church and most recently a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Carol; two daughters, Debbie (Bruce) Raska and Susan Lehman, all of Green Bay; two grandchildren, Justin and Corissa Raska; one sister, Mildred (Donald) Snyder, Horicon; one sister-in-law, Elda Mae Lehman, Winneconne; two brothers-in-law, E. Robert (Helen) Horn, Duluth, MN and Ron Horn, San Diego, CA.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Lehman; and one brother Arthur Lehman. Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday (TODAY) and after 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe St., until time of service. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Paul Johnsen officiating. Entombment at Nicolet Memorial Gardens. On-line condolences may be sent to the Lehman family at www.prokowall.com.
