Jerry D. Matthiesen, 53, Denmark resident, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at a local hospital, surrounded by his very loving family. He was born June 2, 1954 in Spencer Iowa to Betty (Averill) Matthiesen and the late Jack Matthiesen. Jerry graduated from Spencer High School in 1972. Following high school Jerry was employed in the home construction business in Iowa and Wisconsin. He was also employed locally as a truck driver for various companies. In 1995 he began employment in the power plant at Georgia-Pacific West until his illness. While working at Georgia Pacific he received his Power Engineering License and became a well liked boiler operator. In 1983 Jerry moved to Denmark and met his best friend, the love of his life, Kristie Skaleski. They were married on July 7, 1990 in Green Bay. Jerry shared his talents as a handyman with family and friends whenever called upon. He was a nature lover and enjoyed many outdoor activities including, making firewood, motorcycling, snowmobiling and especially boating. Many happy memories were made while on his dream boat "Blowin´ Off Steam". Jerry is survived by his wife, Kristie; his mother, Betty Matthiesen, Spencer, Iowa; two brothers, Rod (Cindy) Matthiesen, Becker, MI; Marty Matthiesen, Rogers, MN; one sister, Becky Matthiesen and her special friend Todd, Charles City, Iowa; his father-in-law and step-mother-in-law, Anton and Carol Skaleski Jr., Denmark; his in-laws, Richard Skaleski, Laurie (Dan) Steinhorst, Ronald (Patti) Skaleski, all of Denmark; Debbie (Tom) Petrich, Green Bay; his extended family Lori (Perry) Schneider, Julie (Scott) Whiffen, all of Denmark; many nieces, nephews, and good friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Matthiesen and his mother-in-law, Arlene (Rentmeester) Skaleski and his loving dog Kelly. Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. on Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. Funeral service 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with his boating friend, Fr. Dino from Crystal Falls officiating.
