Ervin J. Heim, 80, New Franken, died peacefully, with his family at his side, on Friday evening, Jan. 15, 2010. He was born on Aug. 20, 1929 in the Town of Preble to the late John C. and Laura (VandenLangenberg) Heim. He was a graduate of Luxemburg High School. Ervin married the former Florence Smits on Aug. 22, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in DePere. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57. Ervin worked for Joe Reynen Well Drilling from 1957 to 1972. He took over the business in 1972 until 2002, renaming it Heim Well Drilling. Ervin worked part time at Holy Cross Catholic School, keeping the peace and putting the tables away. He was very involved with Holy Cross Parish as a member of the “Over-the-Hill-Gang”, usher and church picnic. Ervin was President of Catholic Knights Sugarbush Branch #288 for 12 years. He loved Packer games and was a season ticket holder since 1957. He also enjoyed playing Sheepshead, being the deer camp cook and tending to his garden. Ervin had a love for life and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Florence “Flossie” (Smits) Heim; 6 children and 15 grandchildren: Paul (Mary Jane) Heim, New Franken, and children Brent (friend, Sara) and Amanda; Ken (Sally) Heim, Green Bay, and children Scott (fiancé Nina), Jessica (Corey) Straube, and Kelly; Nancy (John) Metzler, New Franken, and children Amy (Jason) Bouche, Jason (friend Kasey), Eric (fiancé Melanie); Linda Zellner, New Franken, and children James and Christina (friend Dan); Jeanne (Chris) Rahr, Green Bay, and children Corey (friend Hannah) and Zachary; Sue Ann (Steve) Zellner, Denmark, and children Stephanie, Samantha, and Sterlin; 3 great-grandchildren, Foster, Logan and MaKayla. He is also survived by 5 brothers: Orville (Geri), Green Bay; Lyle (Delores), DePere; Cletus (Ann), Howards Grove; Leon (Sandy), New Franken; David (Rene), Anoka, MN; 5 sisters-in-law: Patricia Heim, Green Bay; Genevieve Smits, Green Bay; Rosemary (Lyle) Mangin, Cato; LaVerne Heezen and Hazel Smits, DePere; 3 brothers-in-law: Merlin (Junella) Smits, Green Bay; Roger (Rita) Smits, Lexington, KY; Edward (Lynn) Smits, Oconto.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant twin sons; one brother, Norbert Heim; father and mother-in-law, Peter and Hattie Smits; three brothers-in-law, Harold and Roland Smits, and Henry Heezen; one sister-in-law, Karen Heim.
Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Parish Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at Holy Cross Church, 3009 Bay Settlement Road from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. with Fr. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ervin’s name.
